Vision & Intent

Vision & Intent

From Vision to Institution

IRIOSH was founded by Dr. Arjun Kathayat, an occupational safety and health (OSH) researcher and industry professional, with a clear and enduring vision:

To advance independent, evidence-based research that protects workers, promotes global health, and supports safe, dignified, and sustainable work for all.
This vision is grounded in the principle that safe and decent work is a fundamental human right and essential to social justice, public health, and sustainable economic development.

While inspired by its founder’s leadership, IRIOSH is established as an independent, non-profit research institute with a growing international outlook.

IRIOSH operates with a commitment to:

  • Scientific integrity and independence
  • Transparency and accountability
  • Global collaboration across disciplines and regions
  • Evidence-based contributions to policy and practice

The institute is designed to evolve beyond individual leadership and function as a collaborative platform for researchers, institutions, and stakeholders worldwide.

Why IRIOSH Was Established

IRIOSH was created to address critical global gaps in occupational safety and health:

  • Uneven access to reliable, independent OSH research across regions
  • The need for cross-country comparative policy insights
  • Increasing complexity of workplace risks, including mental health and emerging hazards
  • Limited integration between research, policy, and real-world practice

By addressing these challenges, IRIOSH aims to contribute meaningfully to safer workplaces and healthier communities worldwide.
