 Vision and Intent

Advancing Safer, Healthier, and More Dignified Workpalces Worldwide

The International Research Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IRIOSH) is an independent, non-profit research initiative based in Canada, established to advance evidence-based knowledge that protects workers, promotes global health, and supports safe, dignified, and sustainable work for all.

Our vision is grounded in the principle that safe and decent work is a fundamental human right, essential to public health, social justice, and sustainable economic development.

Why IRIOSH Exists

Across the world, millions of workers continue to face preventable risks, including workplace injuries, hazardous conditions, and psychosocial challenges.

IRIOSH was established to address critical gaps in occupational safety and health by:

  • Expanding access to reliable, independent research across regions
  • Advancing cross-country policy insights and comparative studies
  • Addressing emerging and complex workplace risks
  • Bridging the gap between research, policy, and real-world practice

Through this work, IRIOSH contributes to safer workplaces and healthier communities globally.

Our Approach

IRIOSH operates as a global, collaborative platform connecting researchers, institutions, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.

We are committed to:

  • Scientific integrity and independence
  • Rigorous, evidence-based research
  • Ethical and transparent practices
  • Open and accessible knowledge sharing
  • Meaningful global collaboration

IRIOSH maintains a clear distinction from commercial or pay-to-publish models, ensuring that all work is guided by academic quality and public interest.

Global Collaboration and Engagement

IRIOSH actively collaborates with academic, professional, and international partners to advance research and real-world impact.

Engagements include:

  • Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) — Comparative OSH policy research
  • Columbia Southern University (USA) — Leadership and workplace safety research
  • Canadian Common Ground Alliance (CCGA) — Conference contributions on safety and SDGs (Canada)
  • International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) — Scientific peer-review contributions

These engagements reflect our commitment to cross-border, evidence-driven collaboration.

Allignment With Global Priorities

IRIOSH supports internationally recognized development priorities, particularly:

  • SDG 3 — Good Health and Well-Being
  • SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth

While aligned with these global goals, IRIOSH remains independent and not affiliated with the United Nations (UN), the International Labour Organization (ILO), or any government entity.

Governance, Integrity & Transparency

IRIOSH is committed to maintaining strong institutional credibility through:

  • Transparent organizational structure
  • Ethical research practices and accountability
